Why Am I Here?

As an educator, every year I find myself grappling with the age-old question of "Why." Why am I in education? What made me choose this path of becoming a teacher? Why do I persist in this journey? Admittedly, there's a part of me that's a bit tired of answering these same questions year after year, especially when I could be focusing on crafting curriculum, planning lessons, or setting up my classroom. But amid this sense of repetition, there's a deeper understanding that reflecting on these questions adds purpose and meaning to what we do. So, once again, I'm here to explore another "why." Why am I pursuing a Master's of Education in Learning Design and Technology?


As I dive into explaining my reasons, let's take a step back and reflect on my journey so far in the master's program at Arizona State University. When I initially embarked on this adventure, I was on the lookout for ways to nurture my growth as an alternatively certified educator who's all about embracing technology. I've had a front-row seat to how learning technologies can empower students and boost their confidence and success in various subjects. This got me curious about the inner workings of these processes and how I could craft more meaningful learning experiences for my own students.


As I worked through the first course of the program, I've got to be honest – the sheer abundance of learning theories and philosophies caught me off guard. It was both surprising and kind of humbling to realize that many of these theories, practices, and ideas were already woven into how I teach, even if I didn't consciously recognize them. And as I moved into the second course, my amazement just grew. Seeing how professionals used technology in countless ways to help their students learn and thrive was a real eye-opener. The amount of thought and effort that goes into tailoring these tech tools to perfectly fit students' needs was truly inspiring.

So, here I am, eagerly looking ahead to what each new course will bring. Every step of this journey widens my horizons, presents new possibilities, and adds to my ever-expanding pool of knowledge.


Venturing forward, it's time to dive into the core of my journey – the 'Why' that fuels my every step. Why am I here? What drives me through this program's challenges and triumphs? Beyond the sheer joy of knowledge and the promise of honing my craft, my motivation is firmly rooted in defining my goals and aspirations within this transformative journey. My ultimate aspiration is to lead a learning revolution within my institution or district, infusing technology into every facet of education. This vision is anchored in my desire to leverage the insights I obtain from this program to heighten the learning journey for K-12 students. Collaborating with fellow educators, administrators, and tech enthusiasts, I aim to harness technology's immense potential for learning. It's this unwavering belief in technology's power to reshape education that propels me forward, eager to seize every opportunity for growth this program offers.


In embarking on this path, I understand the value of incremental progress. I'm committed to taking deliberate steps, building practical experience, and confidence alongside theoretical knowledge. My mid-term goal involves crafting and implementing an interactive learning module tailored for the K-12 sphere. This goal strikes a chord with me, for achieving it would directly influence the learning experiences of the students I'm dedicated to serving. I envision a learning module infused with gamification, a strategy that not only amplifies learning but also celebrates the individuality of each student. This endeavor isn't solely about imparting knowledge; it's about crafting an immersive, meaningful experience. As I pour my learning design expertise into this project, I'm excited to dive into the dynamic world of technology to elevate learning outcomes. With each stride taken here, I find myself inching closer to my ultimate ambition – steering my district or institution into a future where technology and education harmonize seamlessly.


Yet, these ambitious aspirations are best achieved through a series of carefully orchestrated steps. To pave the way for my long-term vision, I must first surmount a series of short-term goals thoughtfully embedded within my master's program. My immediate focus centers on grasping the intricate mechanics of instructional design process models. Through active engagement with the course's practical assignments and real-world design challenges, I'm not merely showcasing my mastery of instructional design principles; I'm demonstrating my knack for translating theoretical concepts into concrete, finely-tuned instructional modules. This accomplishment, a foundation for my mid-term goal, sets the stage for the creation of impactful learning materials.


While I hold my goals close, I'm aware that these ambitions aren't solitary endeavors. The journey ahead calls for collaboration and mentorship from those who've paved their own paths. As I tackle my short-term and mid-term pursuits, like grasping the nuances of instructional design models and crafting engaging K-12 learning modules, I'll lean on seasoned instructional designers and educators. Those who've adeptly woven instructional strategies into impactful content, catering to diverse learning needs, are the mentors I seek. Their insights, methodologies, and practical advice are a treasure trove that'll illuminate my path.


For my grander vision of leading in the educational tech space, I'll look to seasoned thought leaders and change catalysts. These luminaries, whose pioneering research and innovative methodologies have redefined education's contours, possess a nuanced grasp of the interplay between educational theory, technology, and societal evolution. Their sagacity and strategic acumen will be my compass as I endeavor to craft a legacy of groundbreaking learning design on a broader canvas. In embracing their wisdom, I aim to sow innovative approaches to learning and design that resonate on a larger stage.


Amidst these undertakings, my journey is anchored in the joy of learning, the thrill of discovery, and the unwavering commitment to enhancing future generations through the fusion of education and technology. As I navigate this program, I do so with a sense of purpose deepened by each revelation, a thirst for knowledge unquenched, and an unwavering excitement to traverse the evolving landscapes of learning design and technology.
